Translated, the name means something like \u201eSaint Mary of the Way\u201c. The town was named after a church in the Catalan city of La Garriga, whose patron saint Bernat de Santaeugenia was the first ruler of the area around Santa Maria del Cam\u00ed after the Catalan conquest. The town has approximately <strong>4,500 inhabitants, who are largely of Spanish origin<\/strong>.The local area boasts several interesting towns, such as Mallorca's capital, Palma, which can be reached by car in about 20 minutes via the nearby Ma-13 motorway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Santa Maria del Cam\u00ed \u2013 idyllic and yet well-known<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fans of the island of Mallorca, when they think of the town of Santa Maria del Cam\u00ed, immediately think of the beautiful <a href=\"https:\/\/marcelremusrealestate.com\/en\/blog\/maerkte-auf-mallorca-regional-und-oekologisch-einkaufen\/\">Weekly market<\/a>\n of the place. The municipality of Santa Maria del Cam\u00ed also has many bodegas, some of which take part in the always well-attended wine festival. The surrounding vineyards and the Tramuntana mountains also make Santa Maria a popular starting point for extensive hikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the most important sights in the municipality is the Baroque <strong>Parish Church of Santa Maria<\/strong>.It was built from the year 1216 and is unmistakable due to its blue spire. The blue colour might have been chosen in reference to the surrounding wine-growing regions. A further indication of this are the grapes incorporated into the portal of the main entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living in Santa Maria \u2013 also optimal for families<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you wish to live in one of the most idyllic spots on the diverse Balearic island of Mallorca and good food is more important to you than a vibrant nightlife, then Santa Maria del Cam\u00ed is the right place for you. However, due to the large number of visitors, for instance on the occasion of the weekly market, the town is not a sleepy little place.
