The island Mallorca is a culinary hotspot. Here you will find not only high-class star cuisine but also the island's typical Mediterranean dishes, tapas, and Spanish specialities, ensuring there's something for every palate. The restaurants here are in constant flux. New trends are implemented particularly quickly on the island, and Mallorca attracts numerous chefs from all over the world.

The trend is towards a light, healthy cuisine. People are happy to Typical Mallorcan cuisine, which is often heavy and hearty, and has changed little over the years, has been reinvented and reinterpreted in a modern way. The culinary scene in Mallorca and its neighbouring islands is constantly changing. Meat, fish and seafood are reinterpreted again and again, delighting gourmets in different ways each time. Traditional spices and flavours are skilfully combined, allowing Mediterranean cuisine to shine in new splendour.

Tapas Mallorca

As in other parts of Europe, Mallorca is increasingly focusing on a light, healthy cuisine with plenty of vegetables. Vegetarian restaurants are very much on trend: the Bon Lloc in the... Palma Old Town, which has been offering vegetarian cuisine and menus for some time. In Mallorca, there is an increasing number of organic farmers who have adapted to the trend towards healthy eating. For example, at Biogranja La Real, you can rent a plot and grow your own vegetables with expert support. The Biogranja also supplies home-grown, organically grown vegetables, organises workshops, events, and much more.

Increasingly, a trend is also finding its way to Mallorca, one that goes further than the vegetarian movement: at the LoVegano supermarket in Palma, as the name already suggests, vegan products are offered. More vegetarian restaurants We also offer vegan dishes.

National influences

Mallorca is a colourful mix of different nationalities. Alongside the Germans, the Swedish community is also growing steadily and, accordingly, they influence the island's culinary scene. This began back in 1999, when Swedes in Portixol the eponymous hotel has opened.

And you find more and more Swedish influence on Mallorca. There are now Swedish bakeries, for example in Santa Catalina, and recently a Swedish supermarket has opened near Paseo Mallorca, where you can buy typical Swedish groceries.

Michelin Stars

The Michelin restaurant guide announced the annual awarding of the famous Michelin stars for Spain at the end of last year. A total of eight restaurants on Mallorca were awarded the coveted stars: seven restaurants received one star, and one restaurant here received two Michelin stars.

The thus most highly rated restaurant on the island is Zaranda at Hotel Castell Son Claret, which The only restaurant in Mallorca with two stars. This was able to defend the award this year, as it did last year. Essentially, the coveted allocation of stars has changed little compared to last year.

New opening

In May two thousand and twenty, another temple of gastronomy is set to open in Mallorca: the well-known Basque chef Martin Berasategui GUI opens its restaurant „Hit“ on the Playa de Palma.

The complex of the former show restaurant „Es Fogueró“ on the road towards S'Aranjassa is being redeveloped for this purpose. However, due to the coronavirus crisis in spring 2020, it is not entirely clear to what extent these plans will be implemented in the foreseeable future.

In the new „hit“, alongside fine dining, there will also be Shows, concerts and events offered. Should everything go according to plan, it's very possible that this restaurant will also receive a Michelin star and further accolades.
